International artist, Alison Jane Rice was toasted by friends and colleagues at the official Opening of her solo art exhibition and book launch over the Queens Birthday weekend on Saturday 11th June 2011. Light showers, mountain mist, bubble blowing, balloons and the enthusiastic 100 plus guests added to the fantastic ambience of the afternoon at Everglades Historic House & Garden. The event, organised by the National Trust of Australia (NSW) in conjunction with the historic property, also commemorated the opening of the Everglades Gallery, recently upgraded to a professional exhibition space.
Fellow artists, dignitaries, and family of the Australian artist best known for her portraits, nudes, natural history and botanical subjects, celebrated the Invitation Only launch with a sumptious High Tea on the Studio Terrace served by dedicated Trust volunteers. Entertainment by Sydney Youth Orchestra members was well received.
CEO of the National Trust of Australia (NSW), Will Holmes a Court, introduced the Hon. Peter Garrett AM MP, Federal Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth. Minister Garrett was delighted to open the exhibition and book launch in honour of the artist's artistic and literary achievements.
Alison Jane Rice first visited Everglades in her childhood and conceived several of the illustrations of her children’s picture book of verse, The Legend of Prince Farty Barty & His Sacred Bum Bum Tree whilst sketching in its historic cold climate mountain garden. As an Artist Edition it will become a rare collector's book to be treasured by your family.
